Hey everyone,

I tried doing a search regarding this topic but didn't find anything related to my question. I want to apply to DO postbacc. programs but know that my science GPA will hold me back from gaining admissions. So my question is has anyone been offered admissions into a DO postbacc after retaking their science prereq classes? I didn't fail any of my prereqs, but mainly earned Cs and a C+ in my physics and chemistry courses. I tried contacting some of the schools that I am interested in applying to but either I have not heard back from them, or I was given answers that did not answer my question concerning retakes. Thanks for any help or information that you guys can provide.

Lots of people have been offered admission to DO postbaccs having retakes in their science prerequisites.

That's not what you should be trying to figure out, though. Instead, you'd be better off thinking about why you got C's in the first place, and trying to address that before presumably jumping into retakes, a postbaccalaureate program, etc.

In other words, what makes you think that you'll be a competent doctor if you can't get decent grades in classes like these?

Thanks for the response. The main reason for the Cs in those classes was because I was serving as a primary caretaker for two of my family members that had become seriously ill. I was also working full time and could not balance the workload. I've since quit my job, my family members have gotten much better and I've recently taken two upper division science courses, a&p and microbiology and earned a grade of A- in both classes. I know that things will be different this go around as I've figured out my study style and also found a good group of people to study with. I'll be taking classes with some of the very same people I took my a&p and microbiology courses with.

No need to explain yourself here, leave that for the admissions people.

As long as its taken care of, make sure to get A's here on out.

Good luck 👍
