I applied for this current cycle, but I don't anticipate acceptance anywhere. My question is: will the information I submitted this fall/spring affect next fall's applications/admissions? I applied to ten schools, but only filled out secondaries for four. Does the fact that I didn't submit the secondary application hurt my chances at those schools for next cycle? AND when applying through AMCAS must I now check the "I have already applied here" box - even though they only recieved my primary? Thanks folks.

It's my understanding that you have to check the yes,I applied here box if you ever submitted the primary. But I could be wrong.

Your application may not affect your next year application. I applied to SUNY buffalo last year and didn't even get an interview, but this cycle, I got an interview on the first day they started taking the interview for this year. it depends on how much improvement you made on your new application. they will have both application with them when they review you before, during and after the interview.

I wonder the same thing as well.

The reality is that it will affect your application and you will be looked at differently. However, people do get in when they didn't the first time. You should probably apply to some new schools as well as ones you applied to before.

I applied for 2006 but so far have only 1 upcoming interview. I applied to 20 schools, 3 of which rejected me already. To be honest, I applied with much resistance on my part having little faith my bad numbers and less than stellar ECs and clinical experience would earn me a spot. And as a result, I didn't submit all secondaries either. I plan on trying to apply for entrance into the 2007 class and doing postbach studies in between. Does it make sense to apply again so soon? I believe my grades this year will be better overall and often it's the case that the postbach program you enter writes letters to the med schools you've applied to informing them that you're enrolled in their program.
What a mess.

If the interview is open file, definately plan on having questions on what happened the year before. My interviewers both and U Colo and U Neb asked about that. If you mention anything negative about your previous app, make sure you also talk about how you have improved in that area.

i tend to think that most schools would view it as determination and that you really want it...atleast thats the vibe i got when i interviewed this year (3rd time applicant)

It's hard to gauge your situation without knowing specifics-- exactly what is your gpa and mcat score?

The other thing to take into consideration is will med schools be able to see your grad school grades before you apply? If you're taking classes in the middle of the 2007 application cycle, then no. So it might not be worth the time, money, and effort to go through another round of medical school apps.

If you don't get in this cycle, then I would contact schools (especially the one you interviewed at) you applied to, set up a meeting with a member of the admissions committee, and ask exactly what you need to do in order to strengthen your app in order to make you more competitive. Good luck.

Reapply, but know that your entire app is included by most schools with your current app. So, you better have improved your file in some way and changed your essays, PS to reflect new and improved insight with greater drive. No one wants to see you getting tired or less energetic just because you're reapplying. You need to be even more hungry (just like second years are more hungry than first years and thrid years more hungry than second years).

It is all part of YOUR medical career, it has already started and that must be your attitude. You're not getting the big bucks, but you're in the path and that is why you're here in the first place... to be on the path, in the game, and helping people.
