A science professor of mine agreed to write me a letter of recommendation. He's a really nice guy and I took his class 2 years ago. I don't think he remembers me that well. He asked for my transcript, resume, and anything else that would help he write a better letter, but I'm afraid that my gpa (2.75) will make him change his mind. Do you think he'll still write a good letter of recommendation even with a low gpa?

As long as you did well in his class that will be the focus of his lor..also give gim a copy of your personal statement.

Well, if you're asking someone to write you a 'good" LOR, it is YOUR responsibility to make sure that he has something "good" to write about you. Communication is a must since this professor barely knows you. I'd suggest you to go sit down with him during his office hour or whatever and talk it out. If you're worry about your low gpa, talk to him and explain, talk a bit about yourself on a personal level so that when he writes your lor, he would remember you as "the girl who did something" rather than the "girl who has a 2.7gpa"

P.S. It is important that he did well in his class.

Well said - go have a conversation with him and talk over your concerns. You'll get a feel at the end of the conversation whether you (and he) want to move forward with the letter.

It's likely that he'll understand if you communicate with him, especially if he knows you and your potential~
