Hi everyone I have been looking for what DO schools have the best research programs. I tried looking for a national ranking for DO schools in regards to research but I didn't come up with anything. I was wondering if anyone had come across some kind of solid data that could distinguish which schools had the most established programs?

You're not likely to find a list like that. D.O. schools have been more focused on medical education than research in the past... that migh tbe changing now... I believe NSUCOM is starting to get into research. Might want to look into that!

UNTHSC - TCOM did something like 25 million in externaly funded research last year (NIH -NCCAM-etc.) They house the National Osteopathic Research Center as well. Also, their are combined DO/MS and DO/Ph.D programs in research.

UMDNJ is heavy into research as a state school. There is less research on SOM than other campuses but if you can't find what you like here you can either start it or try one of our sister schools. I did research at RWJ over the summer.

Lots of research at Touro, California.

If you are one of these people hung up on rankings you may find some schools ranked by looking at the university associated with the med school. Don't look for OUCOM but for OU.

OUCOM is a good choice if you are interested in research leading to an MS or PhD or just for research during winter and summer breaks.

Incidentally, whether a research program is ranked or established has very little to do with the future quality of your research experience. There are PIs who hate students, advisors who are marking time until retirement, PIs who aren't very knowledgable, labs with outdated equipment and other problems at every institution. The trick is to find a medical school you like that has some sort of research opportunities and then find the lab in which you are most likely to be successful.

Even if you love a school with no research program, you are still free to perform research somewhere else during breaks and chances are good that your school will help you find a position somewhere.

:luck:
