I would like to apply to DO schools and MD schools this next year. I have an MD letter of recomendation. My pre-health advisor said it is highly recommended to get a DO letter if I want to apply DO. I have not shadowed in DO but have been treated by many DO's and see my family doc as one of my role models. I really have enjoyed the way that DOs have treated me and would love to be trained in that model. Have people been accepted with out that letter of rec? My GPA is 3.76, science is 3.68. I'm taking the MCAT this saturday and hopefully will get a 30.

Some schools require it, and there is no way to get around it. Shadow one this summer and send it in later on with your secondaries. I suggest shadowing the one who has treated you, because you will most likely get a good letter from him.

Some schools recommend it but not required such as KCOM, COMP. If you search, there was a thread about it. People list the schools require and not require. You can check here as well. Since you knew the DO, you should ask him to avoid some headache later and increase your chance.

Hate to say it, but your gonna want the D.O. letter. It shouldn't prove too difficult to obtain though.... Good luck on your apps.
