Do retakes count as a seperate class or do they just replace the lower grade?

My community college doesn't allow retakes of classes that one got a C in. Can I retake those classes another school, because if I can do that I can get my gpa to above 3.5? I want to become a surgeon, thus I think I need an MD. Is it possible to be a surgeon with a DO?

A DO can do ANYTHING an MD can do, including surgery.

1) For MD a retake counts exactly the same as if you took another class. The MD application service does not do grade replacement. Most DO schools have a grade replacement policy where only the most recent grade is included in the application GPA calculation, provided the credit hours of the retake are the same or greater.

2) Yes.

3) You can become a surgeon as an MD or a DO provided your Step scores, med school grades, and LORs make you a competitive applicant. Just barely passing won't make you competitve.
