MD & DO Does this count as clinical volunteering?

volunteering as a companion at a hospice 1h/week which mainly includes just sitting and being there with patients and maybe talking with them if they are able. I’m worried about not having enough clinical hours / these not being clinical enough, but I will have ~300 combined at the time of application. Should I be doing more?

I dont think reading books to patients counts as clinical, but hospice certainly does.

Simply for me, yes, those are clinical patient-facing activities. I'm sure being there for patients whether it's reading books or playing music or playing games helps them. But you do need to be in the room where doctors and patients/caregivers talk to each other too.

I’m planning to gain shadowing experience in the next few months, won’t be applying until next cycle

I don’t think reading to people counts as clinical. I was performing physical exams and helping close wounds in a rural free clinic 60 hours a week for an entire year, including weekends.
