Hey guys. I was wondering if their were any DO schools who have an early admissions program which if you get accepted do not require you to take the MCAT? I know that their are sophomore programs liek this for some schools, but what about any Early Decision type programs for any schools? For the schools that do require MCAT's for their EDP, what school has the lowest requirement? (As you all can see I am afraid that my MCAT scores will not be good). Thanks

All of the early decision programs I have seen require the MCAT. Actually, you usually have to have a higher min. score to even be considered for EDPs. As for the competitiveness of different schools, do a search. There's a crap load of posts with average stats for all the schools.

Nah i know the averages.. Oh so you mean you usually have to have higher then the minmum they require? Dang

Yes. Take for example KCOM. Their EDP has a minimum GPA of 3.5 and a minimum MCAT score of 24. Regular admission requirements are 2.5 GPA and no min. MCAT. You would be better off doing regular admission and applying to a lot of schools if your worried about your MCAT scores.

I think you are referring to programs that combine BS/DO, there are some and those usually require a lower than average MCAT score, because you need an above average application before applying.

I have never heard of a US MD or DO program that will admit any students without an MCAT score, with the exception the medical humanities program at either Mayo or Hopkins (don't remember which one it is).

Just study hard for your MCAT. Put in the time now, it will be well worth it when it comes to next years application.

You would usually apply to the BS/DO program in high school, then you need to maintain a certain GPA and attain a minimum MCAT in order to be guaranteed acceptance to your DO program. Some of these programs will even cut short your BS time from 4 years to 3 years.

Nova is the only DO school I know that has one, but I'm not sure if they cut short your BS years or if you still need to complete the full 4 years (assuming standard credit load).

NYCOM has a BS/DO program also (with 2 or 3 different colleges NYIT, SUNY Potsdam and one other), 3 undergrad years, and 4 medical school years, so the program cuts 1 year out of your education. I believe they need to keep a 3.5 GPA and their MCAT must be 1 point higher than NYCOM's MCAT average for the students of the previous year (so for example class of 2012 had an average MCAT of 27, these BS/DOs needed a 28. Class of 2013 had an average MCAT of 29.5, those BS/DOs needed a 30+)

Wow their MCAT avg jumped up that high?? Why was that, hopefully that was only NYCOM, and not all DO schools lol

Opps sorry i didnt mean to quote you right there..J/k, no but yeah it is like 26ish, but i meant hopeuflly not all schools went up this year, b/c thats a big jump that NYCOM made

NYCOM has been on a MCAT raising agenda over the past year or two, it would be interesting to see this entering class years' averages, to see if they are still increasing or leveling out. To be honest I dont think all DO schools are going to shoot up like that, esp not the newer schools
