Hi all,

I’m a non-trad who would like to apply this cycle. I graduated from an ivy league school three years ago and didn’t do so well. After graduation, I did a DIY post-bacc at night while working full-time in a technology-related role at a healthcare company. Do you have any suggestions for schools?

MCAT: 515

Residence: Rhode Island

Work Experience:
  • 5600 hours in tech industry
  • 1600 hours e-commerce business owner
Research:
  • 450 hours research program coordinator
  • 450 hours research assistant with 1 secondary author publication
Clinical Volunteering:
  • 210 hours ERT volunteer
  • 200 hours hospital emergency department volunteer
Non-Clinical Volunteering:
  • 160 hours mentoring disadvantaged high school students pursuing STEM careers
  • 270 hours at various community organizations
Shadowing: 70 hours with OB/GYN MD

Extracurriculars: > 900 hours with various student groups and organizations

  • UNECOM

You are competitive for all DO schools with your stats. Consider adding these:
AZCOM
MU-COM
DMU-COM
KCU-COM
ATSU-KCOM
You could also receive interviews at some MD schools and I suggest these:
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Albany
New York Medical College
Seton Hall
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
George Washington
NOVA MD
TCU-UNT
Creighton
Loyola
Rosalind Franklin
Medical College Wisconsin
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Wayne State

I would have to disagree.....you are not competitive for all DO schools. I think the original list you had is a good start. Your mcat is in great standing, but these days people with a good mcat AND good gpa still struggle, especially for MD schools. DO schools have also become much more competitive.

Thank you so much for the school suggestions. I will take a look into them!

My cGPA was 3.10 and my sGPA was 2.85.
Hmmm.... I would have advised you to go for an SMP with that low of an undergrad GPA. You might still need to consider it since you are carrying a higher sGPA, but maybe not high enough to guarantee you an admission. I agree that DO is your best shot, but network with your closest medical school admissions recruiters for DO schools to get a better sense. Strong MCAT's don't override weak GPA's.
