Can anyone post up a site that lists where graduates from DO schools get their residencies (what field, what hospital, etc)? I'm mainly interested in UMDNJ-SOM and NYCOM.

I was going to give you a run-down of PCOMs grads, but since you're not interested...

😉

In all seriousness...a large chunk of PCOM grads go on to do the traditional internship because of PAs laws regarding DOs. So you will find that although are class is close to NYCOMs in size, they will have 20 people going to anesthesiology (just a random number, dont get excited) and we will have 5. But then we will get a bunch who apply as PGY2s.

Also, we have a good number of military folks who do their grad training at those places.

Off the top of my head I think there were at least 2 grads from 2003 class who did ivy league residencies...PM&R at Harvard and something at Brown. Not that ivy league impresses me all that much, but people around here seem to think it's important.

Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)an hour north of Philly reserves half of its IM spots for D.O.'s which in actuality are primarily filled by D.O.'s. They also have a AOA EM that obviously only matriculates D.O.'s. A plus or minus of that EM residency is that half (don't quote me) of the time is in LVH's community ER (absolutely no trauma) and the other half is at LVH's Trauma I center. This is what I know about that area and can't comment on others.

If you go to their website, many schools have a link that shows where students have been matched and with what specialty.

I know AZCOM does this since they printed up the match list for their interview packet as does UHSCOM.

Does anyone have UMDNJ-SOM's match list....I haven't been able to find it anywhere using the search function.

What laws are you talking about??

There are 5 states (PA, FL, WV, MI, OK) that require that a DO complete an AOA approved internship program prior to residency in order to gain licensure in that state.

There are ways around this (petitioning the AOA to have the requirement dropped because you completed an equivalent internship), but most people who dont want to go through the hassle and want to practice in PA just do the internship and be done with it. In many cases the internship year goes towards your residency training so you may not even lose a year.

Here's a condensed version of nycom's match list copied from another post. It excludes the transitional year or internship and just includes the primary program.
