Curious to know if schools contact lor writers and do adcoms ever look up lor writers to see if they're well known or famous for whatever reason? Like say you got a physician lor for a school and an adcom is like "oh let me see if this guy is well known in his field" ( this can be applied to anything else like your PI if you did research in undergrad). I'm assuming they don't for both since there's too many applicants, but what do you think?

I would suppose if the letter looked suspect for any reason they might do that.

To tell you the truth even if somebody was well-known, it's not going to help.

I've read letters of recommendation from senators and Nobel Prize laureates. They don't help marginal candidates. Others have gotten letters of recommendation from Governors and Congress people.

Wow, did you just happen to know who they were when you read their signature? I legit cannot remember names to save my life
