Baylor requires a criminal background check.

Thinking about lying on your application?

If you look at the school's secondary information (which many can be found on the pre-allo sticky thread), some will indicate if they will do a crim check. I dont' know if they can do it without your consent... I think crim check can be done w/out consent.

even if they cant do a check they ask on your application. So if you lie, then a liscensing board or your future residency program does you will be booted, no degree, tons of cash in debt.

Even if the school doesn't do one right away, most hospitals require that you have one before you can work in them. This means that you'd definitely have one done before third year.

I know this because our school didn't do them, but decided midway through our first year that they would require them because the hospitals require them anyway.

My fiance knew of a guy in one of her pharmacy school classes who was almost booted during orientation week because of this very situation. He lied on his app. (failing to admit to a domestic violence disput). As far as I heard he never consented to a backround check.

hey my driving license was suspended for 2 months. because i was on probation(just got my license) and just had a minor trafic violation. may i say that my record is clean, or it will show up??

yes, most schools are now requiring criminal background checks. within a couple years virtually all schools will be requring checks. this comes from some changes in the regulations passed down by the joint commission on accreditation of healthcare organizations. basically to be accredited, any hospital/school must provide criminal background checks on anyone with patient care responsabilities.

don't lie. as long as your not talking about a felony, and whatever happened was an isolated incident that you have learned from, it's probably not going to kill your dreams before they start. if it is a felony, then you need to talk to each school you want to apply to individually and probably a lawyer to figure out if anything can be done to expunge your record. a felony wouldn't automatically put you out of the running for admissions and the first two years, but it might for the clinical years and licensing purposes.

*edit* specifically most schools are looking for registry in offender (sex/violent/whatever) databases as well as any criminal convicitions (bigger stuff that you'd have to go to trial for, not speeding tickets or M.I.P's)

What do schools run a background check on?

Hi there,
Many schools and most residency programs will do a police criminal background check. Anytime you have been arrested, charged or even ticketed, it will show up (unless sealed in juvenile court). The schools will have access to these things but I doubt that they will make any difference. I was something of a protester and got jailed a few times for participating in demonstrations. These things were in my background check and my medical schools and residency program had no problems with them. I also have some traffic violations too. These background checks should not be much of a problem unless you have some convictions for felony offenses especially violent felony offenses. Your school will be the one to let you know if there is a problem.

The bottom line, stay out of trouble, if you do not have anything more than parking tickets. If you have had problems in the past, consult an attorney and find out what is in your record that might prevent you from obtaining a DEA permit or state license and get it expunged. If you have been convicted of a felony and served your time, learned your lesson, turned your life around etc., then it will be up to you to make sure that your school is aware of these things. Most won't penalize you for youthful mistakes. Above all, do not lie. If you anticipate that you may have something in your background that might show up on a police background check, then check it out yourself and do damage control if your have to but DO NOT LIE.

Thanks so much for the info, I am applying right now, but I am scared to death that my misdemeanor (intoxicated in public-long story) will kill me...Should I include when it gets expunged (next few years) or should I just explain what happened and what the fine was? (20 dollar fine, like reckless driving ticket)? One of my friends told me that some schools wont even look at the explanation and just reject...is it true???
