Specifically looking for DO schools around VA and the Carolinas, thereabouts.

I'm a nontrad hopefully finishing up undergrad at UVA, so I'm looking for somewhere in that area. Already know about VCOM, but not familiar with others, as a Texas resident.

I'm also currently interested in internal and emergency, but may want the option for something more competitive (gen surg), so looking for DO schools that would make me a competitive applicant apart from USMLE and MCAT.

Pretty much any school can do that for you as it is person dependent. Some are better than others. Go to the AACOM website and check out the CIB book online. It will tell you everything you need to know at this point about every DO school America has.

If you want to go a little further north, PCOM has a great reputation.

I probably shoulve mentioned that I'm also.looking at PCOM. Just wanting something closer to "home" if I can.

VCOM is the only DO school in those two states, though within the surrounding states rests PCOM, PCOM-GA, UMDNJ. And then expanding to all the East coast schools you also can also add NSU, UNECOM, NYCOM, and Touro-NY.

VCOM has its new campus in South Carolina, and Campbell U is, I believe, going to start a DO school in North Carolina shortly.
