Hi everyone,
I have already applied for this cycle. I took my MCAT exam this morning and I don't feel so good coming out of it (I am ambivalent). However, based on my practice exam scores, I decided I would not void.

God forbid, I don't do as well as I hope and I found in August, will the schools that I have applied to know that I am registered for an exam in September?

If they do find out, will this look bad? I really hope I don't have to re-take, but if my scores aren't good there will be no other choice but to take the exam in Sept. if the scores aren't good enough.

Thanks in advance.

Schools you've applied to will not know you plan to take the September MCAT unless you go back into the AMCAS application, check the box for the appropriate retake date, and recertify your application. This is one of the few parts of the application you can change after intial submission.

Don't you WANT them to know if you are retaking? Then they will put you in a "let's look at this later" pile instead of a "reject" pile.

Most secondary apps have a space that asks you if you want them to hold your application until X MCAT scores are in. If you want them to go ahead and evaluate your application with your first set of scores and possibly reject without seeing your second, that's up to you...

Thanks for all the responses guys.

Well the thing is, I am still not 100% sure I didn't do well...

I just want to register for the exam to reserve a seat in the event that I didn't get the score I wanted and will have to re-take.

If I did well enough, I will just cancel my reservation and not re-take. I'm just really iffy at this point as to what I should do.

This is a reasonable precaution. No need to check the new retake box until you know for sure.

I felt the same way, still may retake but I'm not waiting to apply. My application is in the verification process right now. When I walked out the the MCAT in May I thought I got a 10, if felt that bad. Just got my score back last week and it was a 30-O. Not great but much better than I thought and probably good enough to get me an interview at most places in TX.
