I have been out of school for several years. I was advised to take a post-bac program at a school that I would like to attend that will give me a guaranteed interview or admission into the school if I was successful in the program.

Is there a list of schools out there? I really don't know what these programs are called, so I was not sure how to search for them.

Thanks!

NSUCOM has a MBS program (masters of biological sciences, i think), students take some classes with the med students, if you get an 80 or above in all the classes you are guaranteed acceptance to the med program. I think you still have to go to an interview, but is sort of a formality as far as I understand. Programs are usually called something like this, SMP's (special masters program, maybe) or masters of medical science are ones I have heard of. There are programs like these for both osteo and allo schools, with varying degrees of guaranteed interviews, acceptances, etc. If I remember correctly all of these programs tend to be more expensive than the tuition of the med school that it is linked to.

KCOM's MS program gives you an interview, and the program is $5,000! Of course you will be taking more money out for living expenses, but $5,000 for a master's degree isn't bad. If you have any questions, PM me.

tourocom-ny masters program

get a 3.5 in the program, pass a shelf exam, and have a certain mcat score and your in for the next year

hey im bumping this. Hope you guys don't mind--instead of making a new thread.

I am looking into these DO specific programs that give you interviews. Do you guys know of any other ones?

MWU gives guaranteed interviews if you maintain 3.0 and have an MCAT within one SD of the previous year's DO class.

I believe Western and Touro's other campus also have similar programs.

Tucom-CA MHS

It says online they guarantee an interview if you maintain a 3.0 during the program, they don't mention an mcat score though but I think you need a min of 24.

I think Lecom-Erie has a program where if you get >3.0 you get an interview for the next class.

Its a conditional acceptance. get a 3.0, meet minimum mcat score (23) and stay out of trouble and your in. "the seat is yours to loose" is the way the admissions director spelled it out to me

I'm pretty sure KCUMB has one as well. I'm not sure if it is a guaranteed interview, but it sounds like they interview quite a few people from their program.

I think TUNCOM does as well.

Many programs either give written guarantees of interview or having been in the program and done well significantly improves your chances.

As far as I know, Western is the only program currently offering guaranteed acceptance with completion >3.0 GPA and 24 MCAT. They let you know when you are accepted if you are also accepted to linkage. I believe there are 10 linkage spots and 22 spots in the program (which also takes Dental, Vet, etc. post-bac students and has a few linkage spots to those programs as well)

I had an offer from KCUMB to enter their masters program and ultimately chose another school where I took a full acceptance- but it did sound like a reasonable program at the time.

are you saying even if you get above a 3.0 you might not get direct admission? That only 10 people will get direct admission and the rest have to apply again for other DOs?(I am not familiar with the word linkage in that sentence)

I'm saying that 10 students will be accepted to the MSMS program with a written guarantee of acceptance to the following year's DO program. Those students must have >3.0 and a 24 MCAT in order for that to be honored. The other 12 students will not have this guarantee and will have to apply with other DO applicants (assuming that DO is the program they are applying to).

I believe he is just referring to those "automatically" accepted. With 10 linkage spots and 22 overall spots it's possible that they only have 10 students who are pursuing a DO spot in the next year (because of the vet, dental, etc. students also in the program). For the ease of example, let's say that they have 15 people who want to get into their DO program:

10 are in the linkage: They are automatically accepted if they have the designated numbers.

5 are not in the linkage: They can apply to Western just like any other student and possibly land a spot in the class, but they have to go through the standard application procedure that everyone else does.

Now, while those 5 are not in the linkage program, if they do well I think it would be reasonable to assume they stand a solid chance for admission into Western's DO class with those who are actually in the linkage program.

The MCAT requirement and shelf exam was last year's requirement.
Starting this year, and for next year, there is no minimum MCAT requirement.
Once you are accepted to the 1 year MS program, you are conditionally accepted to the DO program. You have to maintain 3.5 gpa and pass the comprehensive exam towards the end of 1 year program.

With that program you are practically taking the same classes as a MS1 including gross anatomy....so do you repeat them when you get accepted to the D.O. program?

Not sure about touro-ny specifically but you will likely take it again... in any case, you will be glad you have already taken anatomy and are reviewing/re-learning during the DO program; it will make your life much easier especially with all the other coursework piling on.

I would be all over this if there was a program where if you performed well enough you wouldn't have to retake the course again in MS1. Until then I'll pass. Not worth the risk for DO.

Does LECOM have this program in FL?

PCOM has a Biomedical Sciences MS program. There are two routes: one year biomed certificate (useful in boosting scores and proving you have the grit for medical school styled class work) OR two year masters (concentrations in forensic science, research, or public admin). No guaranteed slots into their DO program, but if you stay above a 3.0 you get an interview (this pertains to whether you're in on it for one year cert or full two year MS).
