They're almost always the same, but sometimes the amount of space you get changes.

They're mostly the same. I looked at the previous application cycle's prompts for the schools I was going to apply to, wrote up a bunch of essays in the spring, and was able to use all but one or two with little adaptation. If you really like to have time to write and rewrite, this might be the way to go since you're not under time pressure for secondaries at that point.
