DO Shadowing in Ohio

I used the mentoring link and I used some networking contacts, but I haven't been able to find a DO to shadow. Odd because I live in an area with a lot of DOs.

So, before I start making some cold calls, I turn to you folks. 🙂 Anyone have any ideas to get in touch with a DO who is willing to let a pre-med shadow? Preferably in the central Ohio area, but anywhere in this great state is fine.

I live in Ohio as well and it was much easier than I thought it would be. Look up the CORE hospitals (where they send their third and fourth year students for rotations) for places like OU and give them a call and get in contact with their CORE director. I gurantee they will have a DO there that will let you shadow them. Most of those CORE hospitals are teaching facilities so they are use to having students and shadowers around all the time. Thats what I did and now I have an amazing letter and awesome feel for Osteopathic medicine. Good Luck!!!

I want to add that you can go to website of the hospital affiliated with a medical school and then look up the physicians and e-mail them. Some of their websites allow you to sort physicians by degree titles (MD or DO) - anyway, most of these places have at least 1 DO faculty in each department. I've found that hospitals affiliated with medical schools are more receptive to allowing people to shadow than private hospitals or private practices.

Dude, Columbus and NW Ohio are DO havens. Call Doctors Hospital or Grant - better to go through CORE as mentioned above to find faculty. Theyll take you no problem. If you want to do surgery, get ahold of Steve Santanello, hes head of gen sx trauma at Grant which is a MAJOR trauma institution.
