I've dropped about 10 pounds since switching to diet... of course I drank a lot of soda so maybe I'm an extreme. Either way, I feel much better now.

Same! But now I'm drinking Coke Zero and people seem to have an issue with that too.

Soda contains high fructose corn syrup. Which is possibly the worst sugar you can possible put into your body, causing a spike in insulin, lowering GH, lowering lipolysis, and also causing insulin resistance. Also, people who chronically drink sodas tend to develop kidney stones. I just stick to beer and coffee. ha ha

First of all- what in the world is soda? ... I'll assume you're referring to Pop. 😉
Anyway, I also drink a lot of it (POP). However- also the diet kind. I fear that the phosphoric acid may be rotting away my GI mucosa, not to mention giving me hyperacidemia and hyper-er.. caffeinemia. But for some reason I just don't care (obviously they're adding something else to make it addictive... those bastards!!).

On a side note- I think that diet cherry coke or pepsi and diet mountain dew code red taste almost exactly like the non-diet kind... and coke zero/pepsi one are both crap.

Not to mention that it doesn't fill you up nor gross you out from further sugar consumption (if you eat too much sucrose on the other hand, you'll feel like crap and stop eating), propagating a vicious cycle of excessive caloric intake.

adding to your side note w/ one of my own....DIET MT. DEW is the king of all diet sodas in my opinion.....its got the taste and caffeine that gets me through studying when I can't bare to drink any more coffee....

I personally prefer not to drink my calories. Plain ol' water for me, if I'm going ot indulge it will be in chocolate cake. But of course everything in moderation. I do have a guy in my classes who is on a 6,000 claorie a day diet and drinks about 2 liters of Mountain Dew EVERY DAY. Though his weight gain isn't showing up yet, lets wait and see what he looks like in ten or twelve years.

Can you still get Diet Mountain Dew Code Red? It disappeared here (Austin, TX) about 1.5 years ago. I agree that it tasted EXACTLY like the non-diet version, and was one of my favorite sodas!

As far as King of Diet Sodas, I'm STILL a big loyal/cult fan of Tab

...but I miss my Diet Mt. Dew Code Red!

Yes- it's still around- I'm pretty sure you're just not looking hard enough.

As for Tab- um... it says on can "causes cancer in laboratory animals".... I am extremely confused as to why people would drink that. (maybe same reason people smoke cigarettes? to live on the EDGE 😀 ?")

RE: Mountain Dew: Code Red -- Nope, we don't have it anymore. I made the rounds at all of the grocery stores one day looking for it. About the same time that it disappeared, Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi started showing up. Maybe the local bottler thought of them as too similar of products or something. I dunno.

The concern over saccharin was entirely unfounded, and it was removed from the list of cancer causing agents in 2000 (+/- 1 year -- I forget.) I'm pretty sure that the warning would've been removed from the can at about the same time, but maybe they left it on there anyway. It's funny that you should bring up cigarettes, because another current public health "issue" (and the studies surrounding it) are just as questionable as the concern over saccharin, and is widely accepted by the public -- that issue is second-hand smoke (which was added to the list of cancer causing agents the same year saccharin was removed.)

Anyways, in the case of saccharin, quite a few of the studies that showed saccharin to be harmful were funded by the sugar industry.

Some would argue that Aspartame is more harmful than Saccharin (causing memory loss, etc) but those studies are all questionable, as well.

MMM.. yeah- haven't looked at a Tab can for a about 10 years.. so that would explain my saccharin ignorance.... maybe i should try some Tab then, ey?

As for the Diet Code Red.. look harder!!! You will find it!! If you don't, e-mail Pepsi, tell em to start delivering it again to Austin.
