Do some schools only accept LOR through AMCAS?

Hello all,

This might be a silly question but I assume that every school still accepts LOR straight my your undergrad university even if they prefer you go through AMCAS's service right? Because I was looking at Stony Brook for example and it said that LOR through the postal service ( I assume this is the traditional undergrad sending way) is still accepted by they encourage using AMCAS.

I'm asking because I already paid and sent my undergrad office my list of schools to send my pre-med comittee letter too.

All but about 10 schools now participate in the AMCAS service, and it is a mandatory service for those schools according to this AMCAS FAQ, number 4:

http://www.aamc.org/students/amcas/faq/amcaslettersfaq.htm

Kind of surprised that your school committee isn't aware of these changes.

Perhaps some med schools will still accept the letters the old fashioned snail mail way, but I think you need to also have your committee letter to AMCAS just in case some of your med schools won't, or in case the letter gets "lost," etc.
