I have heard there is a thought to change the DO designation to MDO. I would agree with this change. We are granted degrees in Osteopathic medicine. Because we are medical doctors I do believe we should have a medical designation. This is becoming increasingly important because Osteopaths are coming into the US from foreign countries and are only practicing OMM and cannot prescribe. This only confuses the general public. We are first and foremost medical doctors that practice osteopathy and we need to respect ourselve and give ourselves a medical designation. What does everyone think?

Who is licensing foreign DOs to practice in the United States?

Now that Obama is president you can expect that change is coming! If you do a search on this topic you will find your answer.

Buzzzworthy. Do a search in this forum OP, you'll get the entire story. One member of the site is even leading a grassroots campaign for change as we speak. Check out his site: www.osteofeform.com. There is also talks of TCOM making an MD/DO program. I personally have no idea if it will ever change. I think the AOA would have to pretty much pull a 180 in terms of who makes the decisions for it to happen. The only reason to ever change the title would be to avoid confusion in a time when every jackass tech, midlevel, NP, etc is clawing away at independent practice rights and prances around the hospital in a white coat. This would solidify physician vs other. Not MD, vs other and wait ... what's a DO again???

Yeah, now you're a government employee, your office feels like the DMV, you make 1/2 of what you used to, and people still don't know what a DO is.

I like VWD (Voodoo Witch Doctor) better. Completely different then everything else.

What about just 'VD.' That doesn't stand for anything else right. You can just walk up to a chick at a bar and slyly say, 'hey ... you in to VDs??' Bam, will work like a charm.

I love listening to you guys b*itch about this stuff! I mean, it literally puts a smile on my face after a long day.

Every time I see a DO in the hospital I feel sorry for all the inner angst he must feel.

I hope someday I can be as cool as you.

I have so much angst that this is my hospital ID pic:
