So I graduated from Cornell as an Econ major and doing post-bacc work at rutgers. I was already verified by AACOMA's, however, I am taking the January MCAT's.

I wanted to know how much of a disadvantage I am at in the process, especially since my scores will not be in till Feb. The DO schools I applied to accept Jan scores, but do people even get in this late in the game?

Thanks guys

Your app will be on hold till you have the score and by then you will be interviewing for waitlist if invited.

don't let others say that it is too late in the game. it's a lot harder, but not impossible to still get an acceptance. here is what happened to me:

nov/dec of 08 i decided that i needed to go to med school. that it is what i wanted and that i needed to quit wasting time becasue i knew it was what i was supposed to do. so i registered for the jan 31st mcat. around december i start to contact schools about my chances of even getting an interview with that mcat date. submitted my accomas in januaury, which got verified before my scores were released. comleted all secondaries and submitted them before i got my scores. once i got my scores i released them to aacomas, notified the schools and sent them my scores through the mcat site that allows them to verify. mind you, througout this process i established contacts with each school and kept them informed. i even let some of them know how i was scoring on practice mcats.

when all was said and done about a week after my score was released (first few days in march) i had two interview invites. the third school put me on hold, and later sent a letter saying that the class was full and encouraged me to apply earlier next year. i figured this would happen as they had told me that all interview slots would probably be gone by the time i got my scores, but hey i had two interviews so i was stoked.

went to my first interview and fell in love with the school, it was their last interview day. i ended up being waitlisted there. went to my second interview, which was on april 17th. first week of may i got an acceptance letter from that school when people on sdn had been saying was full because they had been receiving rejection letters stating that the class was already full. so no, it is not impossible, it really is possible you just have to find out at what schools you may still have a chance at and get your applications in early before your mcat score is released.

just a note to add to this. i didn't end up going to the school i was accepted too. i liked the first school so much that i decided i would give it a fair shot by applying early in the next application cycle. by no means do i have stellar grades or mcat. i won't disclose them here but i will say my mcat is sub 30, and both my cgpa and sgpa are below 3.5. i was amazed that i got interviews and an acceptance that late in the game.

all i can tell you is to go for it. just know that your choices may be limited and you may not get into your top choice. like i said i declined an acceptance to give my top choice a fair shot and am very happy i did so because i was recently accepted there. best of luck to you.

That's great advice. I'd definitely apply to as many schools that accept the January MCAT and that you can afford.

i have a hard time believing this is true in every instance.

No of course not every instance. But mostly.

1) Some schools have advance acceptance off waitlist of previous year.
2) Most interview post Christmas is pretty much for waitlist. That doesnt' mean you don't eventually get offered a seat; it simply means at time of interview the class has been filled. Peopel do withdraw as the deposit deadline nears, that doesn't change the fact the interview is for waitlist/alternate.

i have a hard time believing this is true in every instance.

1) note the difference between general trend and exceptions;
2) your acceptance didn't change the fact it's an interview for waitlist (to fill the slots made available by withdrawals, which you as an applicant have no control over).

It will definately be an uphill battle applying late. I ended up submitting my AACOMAS in late November, verified in mid-December, filled out secondaries in December and earlier January and ended up with 4 interview invites (KCOM, Nova, Western, and Touro-CA). By the time I interviewed in March, Nova and Western were essentially full, but the thing was that both of those schools offered the top of their waitlist (Nova=waitlist with a later deferred admissions offer. Western= "Accepted pending space" which included a deferred spot for the following year) a deferred admissions if the waitlist didn't move. I wasn't offered a spot at KCOM (regular waitlist, not their deferred accecptance waitlist) and ended up declining the interview at Touro.

Is it too late? No, but it's much better to apply at the beginning of the cycle. That said, if you do get an acceptance don't turn it down. One in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.
