Hello everybody,

i have a DO interview next Friday. What healthcare topics do you think are important to read up on before interviewing. Particulars about healthcare, the shortage of doctors in rural areas, euthenasia, ethics, etc. Marian is the school, i know it's new, so nobody will be able to give particulars about this school but any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks!

You can also refer to it as Healthcare Reform

I don't understand why people get so offended at calling it obamacare. Good grief...must be politically correct country ftw.

It's not about being offended. It's about sounding informed on the topic. In an interview, you should try to sound as politically correct/informed as possible, IMO.

Okay, so healthcare reform (check) 🙂 Any other ideas?

I guess it depends on the interviewers. Because one girl in my interview group at lecom called it obamacare multiple times and got accepted and I got WL and used the term "affordable care act" lol.

The irony, lol.

I would look into ethics for sure. I was speaking to a Doctor that interviews for a certain DO school, and he basically said they love to ask questions about what you would do in certain scenarios.

I would also read up on rationing of health care; it ties into the Obamacare thing. Also, look at the school specific interview feedback questions. There are tons of questions posted by kids who interviewed there. Thats what ive been doing 🙂

Maybe it's because I minored in healthcare ethics, but I don't understand what there is to "look up" in regard to ethics. Ethical behavior should be obvious and should come as second nature to all of us.

This is what I think.... There are certain laws, like euthanasia in certain states that require more knowledge than just an ethical answer. You need to keep in mind that although you might think its unethical to not tell the mans wife he has HIV when he admits he won't tell her, there are a number of channels you have to go through, you can't just pick up the phone.

I'm pretty sure you are required by law to notify his wife that he has HIV.

Actually, you can call it Obamacare. Much like the term queer for the LGBTQ community, people got sick of being offended, so they embraced it. Democrats started using Obamacare as well as the president himself. So at this point, calling it Obamacare is completely acceptable.

I think only the LGBTQ population is allowed to say queer without it being considered offensive.. Much like the n-word in the black population. I mean, I've heard gay men call each other the f-word.. The 3 letter f-word, not the 4 letter f-word, but I know damn well that it's homophobic for me to use that word.

Yes, that is correct but you can't just pick up the phone. You have to go through the law to do it. I think they are called public health officers. I could be wrong about that though
