DO waitlists

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Seems like a lot of them require deposits in May, so probably a lot of people decide to withdraw at that time and there might be some waitlist movement.

Naturally, it varies by school. Just because deposits are due in May doesn't mean the people who don't pay get to be replaced people from the wait list. It depends on where the school is at as far as current enrollment vs desired enrollment.

I would scour SDN for past cycle school threads to get somewhat of a better idea for each school.

Or just call the schools and ask.

There is no one specific date for schools to start taking people of WL. Some do it while they are still interviewing other applicants, some wait for deposit deadlines, and some just do it at the end of the application cycle. You should call and check with the schools you are interested in.

It just seems a huge waste of money when you pay deposits for other schools to save your seat, and then eventually get accepted off waitlist for somewhere better.

Any insight on the deposits?

It is, but it's a drop in the bucket to find your best fit. I personally will only keep one acceptance at a time. My favorite DO school so far waitlisted me, so I might have to spend a lot of money before my fate there is decided.

Yup it sucks, but it's part of the DO game.

Friends complained about the fee for allopathic schools and I nearly slapped him. Just pick the best one you got for now. I am expecting to lose $2000 if I hear back from my instate allo or favorite osteo

Yup. I can kiss my $1000 deposit goodbye now that I'm going to my state school. BUT it's a good problem to have; albeit an expensive one lol.

I got an interview the same day my check was cashed at my first acceptance. The interview was at a more attractive school for me and I said the exact same thing. It's a good problem to have.

Got lucky over here. Came off WL at top choice about a week before deposit was due at second choice. Waitlists can start moving whenever, it totally varies by school. Some WLs are reviewed constantly, some are set aside until April.

👍 I got my first MD acceptance 2-3 days before the Nova deposit ($1500) was due. I was so relieved.

I've heard of schools that accept people off the waitlist the week of orientation...

wtf? how can living arrangements, travel arrangements, etc be done in one week??

Lucky duck. I can get $100 back from CCOM and will use that for my $100 deposit at the MD school. I call that a small victory.

You'd be surprised. I did it in three days. It sucks.

MD schools have 100$ deposits?

and DO schools have like 1,500-2,000$

nice

wow. i feel for ya... thats so not cool..which school? they suck for doing that to you.

I'm pretty sure all schools pull off the waitlist into orientation and their expectation is that you can come there right away and get acclimated. It sucks, but it's either that or not go to med school sooooooo 😳

I go to Nova, and it definitely does not suck here. It may be less than ideal to move your life in a short period of time, but attending your top choice makes it all worth it.

👍 I would drop everything for my #1 school even if it was the day before orientation.

Yeah, that's one of those things I wish DO schools would change since it just makes these schools seem money hungry.

Private DO schools*

My deposit to a DO school was $100.
