Hey Guys,

I'm a third year osteopathic student interested in doing Rad/Onc. I was hoping to get some advice about the things I should consider.

I realize Rad/Onc spots are very competitive, and being an osteopathic student is just one more battle to fight.

I took the USMLE Step 1 and scored a 234/95. I am not sure what my class rank is, but got decent grades during M 1 & 2. My M3 grades are only numbers, and I've gotten only 2 (89, 94) of them so far (2 more pending). I've done research (not published) in Anatomy (have a Master's degree in Anat/Cell Bio). I also did some research in Breast/Prostate Cancer during medical school, but that wasn't very fruitful either.

I have had a difficult time getting in on rad/onc research, and am not sure what to do about this. Also, I am not sure if it is realistic for me to consider rad/onc as a possibility for 2009. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks to all who respond

Consider doing an elective @ a well-known program where you can get clinical exposure and/or do some clinical research. Sometimes, if you search hard enough, you can get paid too.

agreed with gfunk. getting a project underway should be do-able.

Hi - Does anyone know of any more fellowships experiences like the ones listed above?
Thank you.
