For DO applications, the letters go with secondary applications. Is AMCAS/MD the same thing?

Do I submit my AMCAS primary, wait for secondary, and finally complete secondary and send in letters using the AMCAS letter service?

I told my professors to upload letters to Interfolio by mid-June. Then, I'll just have Interfolio send my letters to the AMCAS letter service. From AMCAS, I'll send the letters along with my completed secondary applications. Is this how the process works with MD schools?

For nearly all schools, they won't review your application until you submit your secondary and your letters. They aren't required when you submit your primary though. You just need them in by the time you complete your secondaries.

Gotcha.

So in reality, your letters don't have to be in until August at the earliest?

Yes, in theory, but you should just get them in ASAP. For example, don't tell professors that they're due in August. Then you're stuck hoping that they actually do them on time. Say that you need them by early to mid July (say, 7/15) so that you have a bit of a cushion in the event they "forget" or just don't get it done in time.

You can submit your AMCAS regardless of whether any letters are in. However, as mentioned above, schools will not generally - there are some exceptions - consider your application until they receive LORs via AMCAS or otherwise.

I heard that having your AMCAS primary verified early is very important. LORs aren't needed for verification, right?

And I told all my letter writers to send letters in by mid June.
