I was waitlist at 1 school and Aug.5 was the 1st day of class. Will they be polite enough and send a sorry ...but... letter?
Do you get a letter when waitlist ends?

A last glimmer of hope: some schools actually take people as late as 1 week into school, so you've still got a small chance at getting in. If I were you, I'd visit the Admissions Office and ask for whomever is in charge and come up with a VERY convincing argument as to why they should take you if a spot opens up. Since most schools start later than 8/5 (I think), there may still be some movement.
