This might be silly question but today I was looking at the schedule for neurology residency and whenever I add up the months in the schedule it only comes up to 11 months instead of 12 months. I know residents have to work a LOT of hours but do they get a time off? I did a search on the forums and I don't seem to find anything about this topic. Do residents get a break? I'm specially interested in Neurology residency. Thank you.

Every institution is different. Mine has allowed 4weeks vacation but you can't miss more than 1 week of any rotation.

Does the 4 weeks include the usual 4 days a month off or its separate and usually pre-scheduled?

Most (?all) programs give you 4 weeks of vacation. Some force you to take them in 2, 2 week blocks, others are 4 distinct vacations. Some programs will even give you a golden weekend leading up to the vacation so you get a total of 10 days off!
