i'm an assistant at a dental office and couple minutes ago a new patient walks in and asks if we have a "menu". oh man. i cracked up so hard...oh god. im bored; i had to share it with someone. thanks dudes.

"yeah, we got rct for 599. want fillings with that?"

can you imagine what would it feel like if managed care took over dentistry and then dentists found themselves opening clinics within chain restaurants with dental menus...???? 😱 😱 😱 .

I suppose it ought to be a fee chart or something like that. The lab we use at Arizona for our removable prosth does call their fee chart a "menu," however, so maybe that isn't all that uncommon?

Sad thing is is that I have seen advertising like that here in Utah. $100 off a crown, free DVD with exam, free bleach for life, ect.

Most people I've spoken to, both in dentistry & elsewhere, refer to them as fee schedules. Menus are what bring you to the dentist's office in the first place; I wouldn't expect to find many inside.

I think it's a good idea!! I've never been to a dentist with a menu before.. But it might make me feel a little more comfortable to know what i'm getting myself into.

I'm thinking more along the lines of a spa.....which I have learned is a concept taking off in dental practices in metropolitian areas. Gingival Kelp Wrap or the Aroma Molar Therapy?

yeah....and if the office is in beverly hills, we'll get clients like britney spears and christina crapilera.......and then we'll feel totally stupid about ourselves!....i really feel better when i think of dentistry as an essential aspect of health care. i dont like to think of myself as a non-essential healthcare provider. unfortunatly, many people think that dentistry is mostly elective....

Actually some dental offices do have a fee chart and the patients term it a "menu."

sorry to put a spin on your post, thus making it not funny in the least.

But maybe the patients had been somewhere like this before.

Check and see if they had ever received treatment from a dental school.
