I find it very difficult just predicting products without writing any intermediate. Should I memorize them instead of understanding what's going on?

You aren't goıng to have very many problems requırıng thıs thankfully. However should you need to, just use the markers and lamınated paper/dry erase board to do out whatever ıntermedıates you need to, I thınk I may have done thıs myself wıth one or two problems on the DAT.

They provıde lamınated paper that basıcally serves the same role as a dry erase board, as you use dry erase markers on them.

Actually they dont use dry erase markers...idk if each testing center has different policies but mine gives us the laminated paper with a permanent marker and we can ask for new papers when we need them

OP, if you can draw them out fairly quickly, and if that's gona help you get the correct answer with 100% certainty.. I don't see why not. I myself drew out the intermediates (or just the functional group where things are "changing") for multi-step synthesis questions on my DAT.

Good luck

I had two super fine tipped wet erase markers, if that makes any difference 😎

Yeah, mıne was the same as dymm, 2 fıne tıp erasable markers. I don't know why on earth they'd gıve you permanent markers and requıre you to ask for new papers, seems wasteful on both materıals and tıme. Thıs was ın Atlanta btw.

If you look at your e-mail from Prometric confirming the scheduled date of your DAT you will see a note at the bottom of the e-mail that says Prometric locations are in the process of changing the erasable markers. And incase you didn't get this in your e-mail...here it is!

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Important Note: Previously two erasable note boards, two low-odor fine tip dry erase markers, and an eraser were provided to you by test center staff for your examination. However, sites are in the process of receiving new markers. These new markers are of better quality but they cannot be erased with an eraser. Therefore, sites will not be supplying you with an eraser. If you fill the two note boards and require additional note boards, please raise your hand and inform the test center administrator. The test center administrator will exchange one of your used note boards with a new note board. This change has not occurred at all sites yet but will be implemented within the next few months.

Yes, on multiple steps I have to draw things out after there are about 4 reactants. My professor always had one 7-10 step synthesis question on his tests. Those were killer.
