Do you have to do anything to hold acceptances (ie notify the school), or do schoools automatically hold them for you until May 15th?

Usually there's either a form you have to fill out or a deposit to send or a letter to write in order to hold your spot. You'll probably get info about that in the snail mail admissions packet.

Congrats on today by the way!!!

Congrats! Pitt doesn't require any money until after May 15. Just fill out the one page form (which you'll be getting in the mail shortly) and send it back!

For my schools, once they notify you of your acceptance in whatever way they see fit, they send you a snail mail version too. The letter says how much you have to send them along with whatever else they need. I think the standard is $100.

Congratulations! And for my two schools I just had to send in a form to hold the spot until further notice. Oh, and I see you, too.

ahh ok! I'll wait for the snailmail =)

What a wonderful day!

This is likely to be school-dependent but as others have said, most places require that you submit some kind of deposit that "holds your seat". Also be aware that some schools have a time schedule for you to "accept" their offer of acceptance or it will be withdrawn.

When you hear anything from a medical school that you have applied to, make sure that you open the letter, respond to the e-mail or phone call as quickly as possible. Keep good records and check for correspondence/communication on a daily basis.

It's their game and you are forced to meet their deadlines and rules. Don't end up losing a slot because you didn't act on something that was sent you unless you decided that you didn't want that slot after you interviewed there. In that case, release yourself ASAP so that another student can be accepted (or interviewed).

There is nothing "automatic" about application to medical school. Be aware that the "May 15th date" may not be applicable to every school. Some schools will rescind your acceptance before that date if they have not heard from you within a specified time.

I knew you were going to get acceptances soon, Dulcina!! 😀 I hope you get accepted to Vandy so we can hang out at the second look weekend! 🙂

When I got the acceptance letter (snail mail) from University of Michigan it just said something like, "We'll save you a spot and you don't have to send a deposit until May 15". It was surprising since I had assumed most schools require the deposit and acceptance-of-acceptance deal.

In any case it was the best snail mail ever 🙂
