Do you share your AMCAS app?

I am just curious as to how everyone feels about sharing their AMCAS app with friends, teachers, family etc. I copied the HTML version into a word doc and removed my social and AMCAS ID. Then I sent it to a few friends (both premed and non-premed), a bunch of teachers who have written letters for me and will have contributed to the success of my application, and a doctor I shadowed. The only thing I am worried about is someone grabbing a few lines from my app and using it in their own which hopefully won't happen.

How big is your circle of trust?

I wouldn't share it with any of your peers who are currently applying or will apply in the future. Your friends may not have bad intentions but may copy or put eerily similar things on their applications.

Sophomore year of high school I let a friend see my summer religion project for AP World(he was a good guy), and I ended up in the principal's office. Never again 😛 !

Send it to family/advisors if you must, but no current students. You never know which one of your friends are hiding their lax moral standards

I think its a little naive to think that "is it really at the point where pre-meds steal each others applications"...maybe your close friends that you would be sharing your app with SHOULDNT but I think everyone has seen the rampant rivalry to say the least and cheating to say the worst rampant in the pre-med community 🙁

I showed my PS to everyone as it is pretty unique, making it hard to steal, and I wanted to make it as awesome as possible. There is no real other reason to send around my app now that it has been submitted so I don't plan on sending it out to anyone else. Though it is always nice to get positive feedback from people after they read my app 🙂

Unless they start pointing out mistakes you made which just makes you even more nervous haha

Yeah that actually happened a few times 🙄 I wrote that my research experience went from June 2010 to May 2010. Luckily the experience length under the experience heading is correct.

*shrug* I don't see a point, but that's just me. What are you hoping to gain by doing so? I assume the sharing is not for the purpose of "please make sure I didn't screw something up on my app."

Agreed. I think it's very worthwhile to explain your success afterwards (by emailing your letter writers to say you were accepted and you couldn't have done it without them) but I don't get the point at this stage (post-submission, when all they will do is point out problems)

At this point, I would be sharing my app just to get feedback and support of my friends and family. It's always nice to get encouraging remarks from those who have read your app.

I can respect that. I guess I had received enough encouragement in general that showing the application would serve no purpose in that regard.

I'll probably show mine to my aunt before I submit. She's a pre-med advisor, so she can look for errors or anything that stands out as being bad. Otherwise, I see no reason to show my finished app to anyone.
