Do you think I have a shot at MD?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

GPA - 3.6, sGPA a bit lower (have been taking more classes after graduation)
MCAT - 10 BS, 10 PS, but 8 V.... wish it was higher, but I am a first-generation US-born immigrant, bilingual
Not URM racially, but am very socioeconomically disadvantaged (parents are separated and are blue collar workers)

Do you think I have a shot at MD? I don't really want to take the new MCAT, and I have been out of undergrad now for two/three years.

Thanks for all your help!

Just apply. Figure out which MD schools are a close match for your stats and get your app in the first day you can (early June). If you are rejected utilize feedback from AdComs to improve your app for next year.

With a 28, you have a shot at:
TCMC
Quinnipiac
all other new MD schools except Va Tech and Hofstra
WVU
Rosy Franklin
MCW
SLU
Creighton
Loma Linda (but read their list of don'ts)
Drexel
Albany
NYMC
VCU
Wake Forest
Rush
Your state school(s).
ANY DO school

I second both comments here.

Get a copy of the MSAR and start researching schools. That will help you figure out where to focus your efforts. Find those schools where you'll be competitive numbers-wise and start researching them specifically to find those that you're most interested in.

Remember that your stats matter a lot less than SDN will lead you to believe. Work on your clinical experience by volunteering and shadowing as much as possible. Look into research opportunities as well. Show your love for the field.

Best of luck!
