Why not Ross or AUC? I would only consider SMU after applying to Ross, SGU, AUC and Saba beforehand. You are limiting your licensing options by going to SMU.

YOur stats are impressive for most US schools - I'm sure you've heard the "Take the MCAT again" solo many times but I would strongly recomend if you didn't already!
Assuming you've given up on improving you MCATscore, Ross and AUC would be good as SGU and I don't know if you even applied to those... If you didn't and you want to wait another 3-6months for the process than you can defer at SMU and apply. That way you have a spot whatever happens wiht other places.
I was in the same predicament and decided 3 months was too much to wait for AUC or Ross, so I'm going to SMU in Jan - and I was a sure in in May. HOwever 3 months or more may be nothing or too much depending on your life currently, your plans and what the personal situation is.
One final thing, you can always transfer out of SMU if California is a big deal to you - you can do basic science and than move on or even after 1-2 semesters, specially if you have good grades.
So, my very long story short:
Ask yourself How can you improve MCAT and save yourself the pains of going offshore; how important is California; how important is Jan vs May or Aug; and how important is the amount of loans you'll accumulate - SMU is cheaper than all others, even though the island is expensive...
As far as education, I believe even in US or offshore is up to you to learn the material and do well in class and step 1 or barely pass your way through... school is just the means to it!
Answer honestly and it will be easier to make a decision. YOu can always ask more questions - we'll be happy to assist!

Your subconscience is telling you the right thing: stay away from SMU. Saba, Ross and AUC are much much better options. I went to SMU for 4 semesters, and I absolutley hated it. I do not trust the owner or president of the school, and I think the school is heading in the wrong direction. I have heard of several students having a very difficult time passing step 1, finding clinical rotations, and their residency placements do NOT get clearly posted like they do with AUC, Ross, Saba, or even MUA. Look at their residency placements. See how they do not put the exact year, name and specialty. Now, go look at the other residency placements from these other schools. SMU says they do not want to reveal private info. My butt. Why are the credible schools doing it without any difficulty. That should tip you off. My experience with SMU has taught me that they are extremely misleading to their students in my opinion. I can not prove that, but how do you? They only share info they want you to see; they do not tell the whole story, for example, they called us in one day to tell us about Larkin and craplan at the very last minute. They left us in the dark until they all of a sudden came up with the final plan for both. We found out at the last minute, but they say they told us as soon as they could. You know how many students were affected by this? I heard a few were in a bad situation, and SMU didn't seem to do much for them from what I heard. Larkin came in on a sales pitch. Now, after one semester, rumor has it that a few of the very good Miami professors left after 1 semester. These were supposedly very good professors who really like to help students, but they did not like what was going on in Miami with Larkin. I am in Maine and we heard it through our class rep who talked with one of the high ups here in Maine. Do I have all of the info? No. But, I know I do not trust SMU. Have a nice day.

If there was ever anyone heading in the wrong direction, it would have to be a 40 year old man, who failed out of 3 medical schools, island hopping, wasting private student loans without the intention of ever paying them back, and making a mockery of Caribbean medical school education.
What do you think the "subconscience" of schools like Ross, SGU, and AUC was telling them when they rejected you?
Anyway, to the OP......if your credentials are really as good as you say they are then you absolutely have to put more effort into the MCAT. Pull that score to at least a 27, and you'll have a strong chance of getting into US med school. By the way, i know your MCAT is low, but have you actually tried getting into a US MD or DO program?

I think MCAT/ GPA criteria is low 3.0 and 23 MCAT.
Retake MCAT too.
Unless you dont want a DO...

I was in similar situation last year. My GPA was 3.81 but when I took MCAT for the first time, I got 18. I retook it and got 25. Applied to DO schools and I already have two acceptences. I would highly recommend retaking the MCAT. If you decide to go to caribbean, go to SGU, Ross, AUC or SABA.
