No, I know that. But I mean if you had to pick one...which do you pick for hypothyroidism. My friend told me both drugs in FA were listed on his exam. I didn't know if there is a trick like one is favored over the other.

What are the other drugs? I am only aware of Levothyroxine for hypothyroidism. Just make sure you don't give Amiodarone to treat hypothyroidism 🙂

Levothyroxine T4 is the DOC because of its long half life, Triidothyronine is given as an IV in emergency cases and to treat myxedema ..

Yes Levothyroxie is T4 and triiothyronine is T3. T4 has more than twice of the half life than T3. And T3 is about 4 times more potent than T4.

I think T4 is DOC, T3 is not often used and potentially more harmful.

Yess T3 is much more potent that T4 and form what i remember from class that T3 is giving during myxedema induced coma ..

I agree with Levothyroxine. According to my drug handbook, "In general, levothyroxine is the preferred thyroid hormone for use in the treatment of hypothyroidism because of the absence of variability and the ease of monitoring of plasma concentrations." Between what others have said and this source, I would go with Levothyroxine.
