Hey guys,

I remember on my first days of rotation hating reading notes because I never understood what anything meant. Too many acronyms and slang words. I put together this site : Doctorlingo.com. Can I get some feedback?

1. Would you use this on your rotations?
2. What would you like to see in descriptions of the lingo?

Any feedback appreciated--this is an early website and would love your thoughts, comments, and maybe even visits so it can improve!
Thanks!

Hey, great job 🙂

I have a few suggestions for SEO stuff (I was a UI/UX engineer in a previous life):
- Have your title match the H1 for each page
- No need to have "home" in the header title, use a solid slogan with lots of keywords instead (eg, "DoctorLingo -- medical abbreviations, slag, and medical jargon for {insert target audience here})
- Take advantage of built in markup:
-- definition lists (Lists in HTML documents) and definition tags (HTML dfn tag)
-- abbreviations (HTML abbr tag)

Target audience behavior and expectations is critical if you want to go big -- think about what your visitors will want to see (not what you want to show them).
- Have a giant search box that really stands out:
-- Zillow: Real Estate, Apartments, Mortgages & Home Values doesn't show people real estate on their splash page (at least not in the loaded space), it's a huge search box because people want to search for homes by entering in their own parameters
- Most people have no idea what abbreviation they're looking for when they get started, so a reverse search w/ autocomplete would be attractive
-- www.google.com shows most common related searches as the person is typing

One minor critique, after doing a quick search for "hours" on DoctorLingo, Q didn't show up :\ Automated testing might be helpful while you're programming to help insure that you're actually programming the functionality intended.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. Good work again and good luck :luck:

Hey there,

Thanks so much for the time and thoughts. Certainly much appreciated!

I'm taking advantage of the default wordpress markups and H1's all match the post headings. The issue really is that most of the text is <500 characters and doesn't really have the length for an H2 and H3. The content will get lengthened with time and that'll help a lot. That's mostly why there's no Q--no definitions yet haha.

A few questions
- can you clarify what happens when you search hours? I got Q👎 which is the intended definition. We'll likely break that out at some point
You searched for hours - DoctorLingo

- eventually when there's enough content i'll put in a more relevant search engine but for now relevanssi suits the needs given the severe lack of content. Its a thought I will keep in mind once we get more content out there.

Quick question--
would you find this useful on rotations? i.e. on morning rounds on a new service?
