Hi, i am from india and will be travelling to uSA in fall 2007 as my spouse is in USA.
I am a doctor and have completed my BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine & Surgery ). Its a 4 1/2 year course plus 1 year of internship at hospital.

I am sure I won't be able to work in USA without doing some course.

Can you guys please suggest me what are the career options for me in USA. (I don't want to do 4 year bachelor course from scractch).

i would be happy to do a 2 year course or even less which can provide good competetive job.

Thanks

What sort of job do you want?

Can somone please give some input on this?

hey infact i have a good news for u. U can practice ur Homeopathy in USA. there is some procedure that u have to go through. Now i dont know if patients are gonna come to u or not. lol!

the other option is do a course in Naturopathy. Its somewhat similar to homeopathy. When u come to USA, check the local indian newspaper. there are so many ads on homeopathic health care. So probably u might wanna visit their office and enquire how did they got license and how are they practicing. perhaps they can give u more info. or else just join Naturopathy course. Its 2-3yrs. but good one. U will be awareded a Doctor of Naturopathy degree (ND).

i'd suggest a physician assistant's course - although i have no idea how long that would take. some PA's earn a pretty good amount of salary. one of the PAs that worked with our cardiologist earned almost $100K! so, that is something you could look into.

also, keep in mind that indians (particularly in india) don't look at that profession as something prestigious. but in america, nursing, PA, etc are considered to be noble and well-paying professions.

I am not looking to continue in Homeopathy. I know its not recognized in US. I am looking for something differnet..2 year course

What about Masters in Public Health or Masters in Physician assistant??
am i eligible for these courses...I have already done 4 1/2 years school + 1 year experience in hospital

or maybe some other course...

Yep PA is a good option. take GRE get some good score. then u have to go college here to finish again courses in Anatomy, General Chemistry, organic chemistry and Microbiology. Dont worry you can be done with all this in 1yr. and then u cud apply for PA course.

PA is a 2-3yrs course (depends on institution). If i were you i would go for PA than MPH. MPH is not worth it. PA is good and presently in demand. By the way soemone mentioned above PA makes $100k:laugh: . naah not that much but you could be looking something at $70-80k.

Your best bet is to join PA school and get a job. PA's make a lot of money...considering that they are in school for only 2-3 years. Medical school is a whole different story...

You need to complete a 4 year MD, otherwise you cannot practice medicine in the USA. That degree is not even recognized by the ECFMG.

Try going in for an MPH. Or better yet go the MS+PhD route.

If you are sure you want to pursue medicine, an MD or DO (both 4 years) plus residency (another 3 or 4 years) is what you will have to do. No way around it.

I am going through medical school after having completed a dental surgery degree. If you want it, you'll do whatever it takes to get it.😉

OMFS is a specialization in itself. To do it here in the US, you need to have an MD as well (Apart from DDS ofcourse). So, it takes you 6 years after 4 years of DDS to be certified in OMFS. I completed my Bachelors of Dental Surgery prior to starting with MD.
