I was hoping someone could answer this question. So I signed up for the Canadian DAT back in late August I think to be written on November 1. I wrote the American DAT on Sept 2, I did decent. I was wondering if I were to write the Canadian DAT and do worse, will the schools (american) look at this new score, or do I have the option of reporting it, or will this make my american DAT score void because I now have a "most recent DAT" score.

Thanks

it's different for every school, most schools consider all of your scores, both old and new, but some schools only look at you most recent scores. you have to call and ask.

I realize this, and maybe I should have been more clear in the OP. The DAT i am going to be taking is the Canadian DAT. I know all schools have their own guidelines with retaking the American DAT, but since some schools accept Canadian DAT, I wanted to know if the newer Canadian DAT score would replace my American DAT score.

There is a thread that explains what each school does with multiple DAT scores...don't have it tough, sorry.

I realize this. The problem is, does a CANADIAN DAT score replace an AMERICAN DAT score or can I just not report it for American applications. Obviously if I score better in my Canadian DAT I am reporting it.

That sounds like a rare and unusual circumstance that most SDN members wouldnt know. If I were you I'd call the schools and ask them myself.

I'm in this situation as well...
I am hoping it's not a big deal.

Thanks tho, it is a rare and unusual circumstance but 1 other person so far is in the same situation lol. Anyway, contach have you practiced carving? My dog couldn't stand the noise, barked, and i sliced my finger open while practicing. Good thing it was on my left hand and its a clean cut. I heard people have brought their own lead pencils for marking, so if your practicing with the marker do both.

carving shouldn't make noise lol.. you are carving soap....

sorry to hear about your finger.

I'm taking multiple HB pencils that are round (not octagonal) and a pencil sharpener. And i am only practicing marking with pencil.. never marker.

Hi,
I am also curious about this. Are you going to call all the US schools you applied to and ask them? If you want to do that, we can divide which schools to call and report back here.

oh lol not the sound of carving, just putting the tools down and stuff on my desk. my dog is weird. anyway fingers okay, clean cut. with regards to schools, I am just not gonna report my scores if i do worse (hoping not) but if I do better, which I don't think i'l do substantially better, I am definately gonna report the scores. Theres no point calling schools, you'll talk to someone on admissions comittee.

could schools find out that we wrote the cDAT w/o reporting it to them?

Ofcourse they can, but I doubt they will investigate anything more than they have to, I mean they are busy as it is. I didn't even choose to send it to any schools, I paid the bare minimum to write the test and sent it to Canadian schools. But I did not think of this until now, when it could potentially be a problem. It's not like I sat there going, hmm how am I gonna trick the dental schools lol. This is my reasoning. I signed up for Cdat because incase I wante to apply to Canadian schools, since they ONLY accept cDAT. Since it is written so late in the cycle (Nov.) I wrote the American one instead. I happened to do okayl, don't really wanna write the canadian one but it's better than getting a only a portion of my refund.

I'm in the exact same situation as you. I think it's very unfair that Canadian schools do not accept the American Dat. I also took the American Dat in Sept and I did quite well, I'm afraid I might do horribly on the Cdat as its been over 1.5 months since I've studied...I'm debating whether to write it or not...

WOW! You do not think Canadian ds have a right to unilaterally decide what their admission requirement are going to be?

From what I saw on the American DAT, I heard its similar but the people I heard from wrote both 2 years ago and only once each. I don't think you have to worry tho, it's the exact same material and very general. I even think they copied and pasted what we needed to know from the ADA site.

I think they should accept both tests. As they are suppose to be very similar in content. But whatever, that's life right, so Nov 1st I'll great the lovely opportunity to write another 5 hour exam.. joy:hardy:
