Does admissions look down on you if you oppose UHC?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
One of my interviewers asked if I was for socialized medicine (which I know is different than UHC), and my reply was that 'I was interested in the most efficient and effective means to deliver care to all people. If that was socialized care I am all for it but that I doubted it was.'

I still didn't get in but I think that was for different reasons.

If you have an opinion about it and you're asked, state your opinion and support it. If your interviewer criticizes your opinion, don't take it personally - respond with more supporting data if you can, and if not, then say something like, "You raise some good points, I'll have to think on them some more and maybe if I'm accepted we can continue this conversation," or something to that effect.

If you're unlucky enough to have an interviewer who is irrational enough to make it a make-or-break issue, then there's nothing you can do. But that's pretty unlikely to happen to you. As long as you don't launch into a diatribe or get really defensive about it then you should be okay.
