Does AMCAS count +'s and -'s in calculating GPAs?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It does. On the page that you enter your AAMC ID and password to log in, there's some kind of help tutorial/worksheet. Some where in that big packet, there's a page on how they calculate all the +'s and -'s (and also how they convert quarter to semester units...which is a bit odd because it's not exactly straightword like 2 semesters=3 quarters)

1. Yes they do add + and -. There's no real conflict here. + are .3 above and - are .3 below.

2. There has been a few "errors". +/- have been ignored for a select number of people to "even the playing field". Whatever. You can't ask them to fix it.

3. I believe the conversion is perfect. I may be wrong. .66xQuarter=Semester. Or 2/3 of Quarter.

Don't you mean, 1.5 * Quarter = Semester?

Nope.

On the quarter system, you take the same amount of credits per quarter as a semester hour school. The difference is that you take 3 quarters vs 2 semesters. It takes about 180 quarters hours to graduate as opposed to about 120 semester hours. Got me?

Semester*1.5=quarters
quarter*.667=semester

I thought they take away the pluses but leave the minuses, but I really hope I'm wrong and they consider both 🙂.

they count both + and - but not for A+. A- is 3.7 and B+ is 3.3

My understanding is that all plusses and minuses count EXCEPT A+...there have been some unusual reports on SDN of minuses being left off with an "official" AMCAS explanation that they are just trying to level the playing field...frankly, that sounds like total BS to me (that AMCAS would do or say something like that), but I can believe that some of the grades get put in incorrectly without the plusses and minuses...

Dude, I'm pretty sure that is on the AMCAS website.

How about googling before you ask these questions?

Here's an idea. Type in "AMCAS B+" and click on the first link that shows up.
No really, do it.
