Okay, this is going to be a really weird question but I am quite sincere. I took an anatomy class at Naropa University (ironically, the thing that got me interested in medicine) classed there as PSYB 100 in their psychology department. It transferred to my current school as BIO 8000. But here are some key highlights from the Syllabus:

  • "Some practical understanding of these major systems will be given from a Naturopathic Physician/Acupuncturist's perspective"
  • "will introduce energetic systems of Anatomy (e.g. meridians, chakras)"
  • "2 hour lecture on Meridians & Chakras"
So, my question is... is this going to be seen as a science course?

Sounds cool/weird. My guess it it will not be factored into your science GPA.

I've never heard of Naropa University. I had to google it...and was not at all surprised to find it located in Boulder (mecca of weirdness). I do not know the answers to your question (sorry!) but peace studies would be an awesome major!

I would think so too... but it's technically labelled as an Anatomy class but it's listed under the Psychology department of this school. And of course, there were a lot of references to "the Five Elements". It was a very interesting course and it got me looking at Naturopathic Medicine.

Then a few months later, out of sheer curiosity - I wanted to know what the requirements were for allopathic medical school and I saw that they were the same (except for the addition of the MCAT & AMCAS processes) and I wouldn't have to embrace pseudoscience (i.e. homeopathy).

Agreed. I went to Naropa/lived in Boulder for a year and I'm glad to be at Metro and the Auraria Campus - because there are a lot less yuppies. I feel so happy to have escaped Boulder.

If more than 50% of the curriculum was a traditional Anatomy class, it may count. Did your current school accept the transferred course and its grade or did you just get a P/F assigned?
Here's what my school has for that course under MetroConnect on my unofficial transcript:
Subject | Course | Title | Grade | Credit Hours | Quality Points
BIO 8000 Anatomy T 3.000 0.00

You'd probably have to fight for it to be counted as science, as AMCAS will take it from the original transcript that you'll have to submit, and that has a PSYCH prefix (even though your current school listed it under BIO).
Ah, kinda thought so. ^_^

Sounds like an interesting class. 🙂
