Does anybody know how academic updates work?

I was on the aadsas website and i understand that once you submit your application you cant update your transcripts/grades/coursework. However there is an academic update period? What exactly is this?
So, if i were to submit my application in June and take summer courses and fall semester courses as well, they wouldn't receive these grades at all or i'd only send them in during the "academic update period"? Also, can they reject you before they get these grades? Or do they put you on hold?
I'm confused...any help would be great! thanks so much :-D

I haven't used ac update yet but this is my impression of what it is:

If you have your official spring grades when you apply in June, they can see all of your grades up through that spring. In december, they give you the opportunity to update your grades which means you would be able to add your summer and fall qtr grades to the cumulative assuming your fall quarter grades have officially been posted in time.

I've read a few people on here that got "interview pending fall grades" or something along those lines, but I think most schools will either decide one way or the other w/o waiting for your fall grades knowing that one quarter's worth of credits isn't going to change your cumulative that much.

My question is how many people are going to academic update. My spring and potentially fall quarter grades will be added and they will bring my cumgpa down just a hair. Would it be worse to post them and take the .04gpa drop or would it be worse to not post at all?

I think you have to update, right? Does anyone else know about this?

I know the schools are all about "staying updated," in terms of grades and schedule changes.. and some are very picky about you notifying them when anything changes, so I think it's important to do the update. That's just my take on it.

They open the update period Nov 16, but I'm waiting until Dec to update because that's when I'll have my fall semester grades.
