So I've gotten into medical school at this point, yay. But it feels like the majority of my schools are just stringing me along. I have a bunch of interviews but haven't heard from three times that many schools and have rejections from less than half that number (clear as mud eh?). I think I'll probably get into all the schools where I had female interviewers but many male interviewers find that I threaten their masculinity.

Back on topic... Does anyone else feel like this process sucks and it shouldn't take 4 months for a schools to get back to you?

Dear Troll,

Is your life so empty...are you so attention-starved that you need to troll on SDN?

I think somebody needs...

...a hug.

Sure, I'll take a hug. Not really sure what you mean by troll. How's the air up there?

Care to build a time machine? FF 3 months please...

I know, I agree... it's RIDICULOUS. I can't believe schools take so long to decide what to do with your app.

Either you like me or you don't, amirite?oramirite?

So... you went to your interviews shirtless?

You should of called after, you were prob giving mixed signals... :meanie:

No. I wore a low cut tank top, a pink button down, a large golden necklace and left the top 4 buttons of my shirt undone 😛.

Could be. Though, none returned my calls. Kinda like a giving out your number at a club.

lulz wat?

I'm big and built. I find that intimidates guys who don't know me.

you're fooling yourself, being big isn't intimidating, especially if you're wearing the same monkey suit in interviews as the rest of us.

if you're intimidating your interviewers it's probably an attitude issue.

and i hope that avatar isn't really you GQued. pecs are weak.

Ouch, that hurts. I'm more of a deadlifter than a bencher and pecks have always been my weak suit. O' and I'm also 6'6 which is what I meant by BIG. What are your dimensions?

lulz wat?

When your veins in your biceps are bulging so hard they're about to break through the largest suit available, of course the adcoms are going feel threatened. Unless you're talking about down there... in that case, why haven't you been accepted to more schools yet?

sorry i've been giving you a hard time. your original post seemed a little troll-like, but you're being straight with me, so i'll give you some credit

i'm a little guy: 5'7" and 150 but i was a sprinter and captain of my college track team, and while most guys my age have gotten soft since college, i've just been getting bigger. squat 280 and bench 200, it's a lot easier to get big when you don't have to worry about running anymore 😎

the reason i challenged your original statement is because i feel that you can be big and still make a good impression too. the guy that taught me to lift and was one of my best friends in college was another sprinter about your size, and that guy was never intimidating. it's all about your attitude. smile a lot, that goes a long way 🙂

as for the male/female interviewers, i've found that my female interviewers were just much more positive and forward in the interview process, while many male interviewers try to act a little more aloof or even pretend to dislike you to put some pressure on. there's really no telling how the interview went until later, you might find yourself getting into all sorts of places, just have to wait and find out!

It's aight. You're a strong little guy! I deadlift 400+, squat 300+ and bench around 200 😳 . I don't actually go to the gym too often anymore but have retained my size.

life is really hard for you isnt it...hahaha. You deadlift more than you squat?? thats pretty unusual. How's your explosiveness? hang/powerclean?

Watch this and tell me you don't feel like a pansy.

light weight baby! 😎

in response to OP, i realize we got off topic, but yes, i feel the same way. i'm already in a couple more local, lower-tier schools, but still waiting to hear back decisions from interviews with top choices. the waiting is killer

I have a nice mix. I've heard very little from the schools with avg stats below mine, mostly heard from schools with averages a little above mine.

Which one was Ronnie Cole? I agree, it's all JHU 2010's fault. I think a good ol' lynching is in order 😛.

I would say 80-90% of the weightlifting population should be deadlifting more than they squat. Unless we're talking about a multi-ply suited squat to a few inches above parallel or someone with crazy short t-rex arms, the biomechanics of the deadlift allow for using more weight than the squat, no?

My squat is about 25 lbs less than my deadlift. Yes, I would agree that it seems that the majority of people should be deadlifting more than they squat, but I also feel that it depends on whether the person is using lifting straps or not. For my max deadlift I used straps, but I would struggle to deadlift my max squat weight without straps.

Lulz......

Didn't think about that. I tend to forget not everyone pulls with mixed grip, chalk, and at least one hit of ammonia. I can definitely pull > than my max squat without straps, but it would be with a mixed grip; not sure how I would do with double overhand.

Are you competing?

I wish I could use chalk, but the school gym would have a cow. We used to use it all the time when powercleaning for football, but that was a different weight room. I've never used ammonia before a lift. How much does it actually help? And I too prefer mixed grip when not using straps, but when using straps, double overhand all the way.

Not yet. I've helped out at the annual meet my university club team hosts for the past few years though. I want to feel comfortable opening with a 400 pound squat before I step on the platform, just so people don't think I meant to go to the ballet recital down the hall.

I'm lucky, I go to a big football school with very nice weight rooms. Perfectly fine to use chalk as long as you clean up afterwards. Have your tried sending an e-mail to the director of your gym facilities? If you keep it cordial and focus on the safety issue as well as promising to keep it clean, I have found most people to be fairly accommodating.

I don't use ammonia regularly but a few members of the competition team do. Burns like all hell but gets you pretty psyched up for the lift. If you're big on really getting yourself going before a max attempt you would probably like it.

This. Yes there may be thousands of applicants.. but it should not take OVER A YEAR to decide whether or not they like me.
