Like scrubs, house, grey's anatomy

The only show I like that's remotely related to doctors is Nip Tuck

I like House, more for the sarcasm than anything else though.

Boring? Hardly! I live by Scrubs, and I'm a huge House fan too.

Raises hand.

I watch no medical shows. I did watch Niptuck (stopped after season 4). Not for the medical aspect, but for Julian <3.

Grey's and House are just plain horrible. I periodically watch Scrubs, but honestly, the show also isn't all that enjoyable. Nip/tuck is alright, probably the best of the 4 that you mentioned (although it just gets way too bizzare at times).

But yeah, describes me in a nutshell. Emphasis on nut.

My father is a doctor and he HATES all those doctor shows because they're ridiculously inaccurate. One of the guys on ER once even admitted he just makes up words sometimes. I kind of inherited my father's distaste for these shows.

What I hate about them is how everybody thinks that's how it is in real life, and then you're in gen chem 1 and half the kids say, "I wanna be a doctor because of [insert tv show name.]" And then they find out that gen chem isn't so easy, and orgo is even worse, and then all these kids drop the class and quit premed.

I watched like 3 episodes of House, MD and found it extremely boring and formulaic. First a patient comes in with a seemingly regular problem. Then the treatment doesn't work and they almost die. Then House figures out its something else and treats the patient even though others disagree. The patient gets better. Then the patient develops another problem. Then House figures out some obscure, miniscule fact about the person's life that would cause them to have some random condition. House treats the patient and the patient gets better. Seriously, every single one of the few episodes I've seen of this show follow this formula.

I watched the first season of Grey's and loved it. Second season, with the exception of a few episodes, was pure crap. I bought the third season but haven't brought myself to watch it yet. I actually really like ER, though - but that's probably because it's such a great character study and I have been watching it since the very first season (back when it was really good)....

But in general, Doctor shows = not good. Same thing goes for CSI-like shows - as a forensic science, I can find at least 5 inaccuracies in every episode. It gets annoying. I love how the general public is a "leave your brain at the door" audience.

You watch TV for entertainment. Stop bitching about its inaccuracies and just take it for what it is.

its not a reality show. who thinks it is meant to interpret real life??? its a drama and it is highly entertaining (im speaking more for House, i dont like greys and have never watched scrubs). thats probably why you dont like the show, b/c you assume it is supposed to reflect what actually happens. if you didnt think of it like that, you might enjoy it for what it is...an awesome TV show.

I watch House, Scrubs, and Nip/Tuck for the drama. However, I recently started watching this tv show called 3 Lbs. It's about two neurosurgeons. The show is remarkably accurate in terms of how an actual hospital functions. The doctors don't run every single test themselves and the disease isn't some extremely rare disorder.

Nip/Tuck rules!!!

Grey's Anatomy deals too much with the repercussions of hooking up. Its for chicks :scared:

Untold Stories of the ER is pretty funny at times 😀

I could not agree more. I like House and Grey's. I watch Scrubs if there is nothing else on, but I still enjoy it.

How is watching doctors on tv entertaining 😕

If I'm leaving my brain at the door, I'd rather watch something like Tila Tequila's Shot at Love.... provides me with more entertainment 😀

We're gonna be doctors for the rest of our lives.... watching doctors on tv, come on now.. I'd rather watch something really really random that is not related to anything I do 😀

scrubs = funny. a little over the top, but funny.
house = stupid. was decent at first, but the plot never changes and they've injected a ton of hyper-sexuality to keep people interested.
grey's = the worst. period. i'd rather mainline a triprotic acid while being burned alive than watch another episode of grey's.
er = the best. love er.
nip/tuck = never seen it. know i wouldn't be interested due to my low opinion of using sex to sell TV shows.

You want some real entertainment? Watch "Cops".

I swear, that shows in its 20th season for a reason.

he just makes up words sometimes.

Jesse Jackson is the genuine word-fabricator, the real deal. :meanie:

Grey's is a chick flick, like Days of Our Lives - only worse. I'm proud to say I've never seen more than 3 minutes of a Grey's episode. However, for purely entertainment value, in the past I've watched House, Scrubs, and Nip/Tuck. House is the only one I currently watch if I'm bored. The humor on Scrubs still gets a laugh but Nip/Tuck was embarrassingly stupid, almost as bad as Grey's.

I don't see it so much but I concede that for some reason Cuddy envokes instant Nerf-o-rama.

well, all this stuff with stealing cuddy's panties and that one blonde chick who was trying to get the job and there was always the issue of her panties (who has the panties? where are the panties?!), and house's various liaisons with uber-sexy patients and ****** and what not... just seems to have sunk back down to the level of regular ol' TV...

Omg!! I didn't think anyone would take me seriously.

Yes I never miss it! The "Specials" are always cool.

👍👍👍

I think we should speak no more of such an awesome show in THIS thread.😉 I vote that this excellent programming is in a league of its own and at the very least, requires it's own thread! 👍

i live by scrubs. and often find myself judging peoples sense of humor based on whether or not they like it (all my friends who dont like scrubs its bc they dont get the humor)

also huge fan of niptuck

besides those never really got into the rest, house is to repetitive and greys i dont like the characters (dont like meredith or patrick dempseys character)

RENO 911! > all

I watch Grey's Anatomy most often. I'm not too fond of the storyline but it entertains me anyway. I also watch E.R. whenever I can and General Hospital. Scrubs not too much. It's okay. House...my friend let me borrow her DVDs. It's okay, too but the plot is all the same.

I watch House for the gay secks between House and Wilson.

I love Scrubs. But it's a TV show. I know it's not accurate, I'm not watching it because it's accurate. I'm watching it because it's funny.

As for the rest...House is boring, Greys doubly so (my roommate watched the ENTIRE SERIES this past semester when she was sick for a week with a sinus infection), and I don't think I've ever seen ER or Nip/Tuck.

Actually, Scrubs and Jeopardy (yup, I'm that girl) are the only things I watch on TV ever, unless a movie I like is coming on.

I admit that I just started watching House, M.D. - although I wouldn't admit it if you asked me in person. I found the idea of a misanthropic doctor original enough to hook me.

That said, I haven't made all the way through one season yet and the show is starting to wear. It's not just that it is formulaic, it's how it is formulaic - in real life, you can only say "House, you're going to kill this patient!" maybe 3 times in earnest. After that you should probably have him arrested or sit back and quit acting surprised when he gets all maverick on you.

I watched one episode of Grey's and found it awful, awful, awful. It's just a soap opera wearing scrubs, and with ridiculously beautiful people to boot.

I hate all of them except Scrubs

House is way too predictable. House thinks one thing, his residents think another. House's treatment is either going to treat them or kill them. Voila! They're saved.

I liked Grey's Anatomy at first. Now it's way too mushy and cliche. There's no plot to the show other than "Let's have them all sleep with each other."

I used to like Nip/Tuck, and I'll continue to watch it, but it's so out-there that it's ridiculous.

I've never been able to stand ER.

I've never seen Dr Quinn, Becker, or Northern Exposure.

Scrubs, at least the first few seasons, is actually (minus the slapstick) a very realistic look at residency training...allowing of course that it's a TV show that has to entertain.

ER, except that all of the medical action is time-compressed in the interest of moving the story along, is also very realistic. As far as the soap opera story lines, you either like them or you don't but it is an interesting show and I have watched it for the last fourteen years and still like it as much now as I did back then.

Nip/Tuck, which I have watched a few times, is about as unrealistic as a television program can be and is more science fiction than a medical program.

Those are medical shows? 😕

I only watch stuff on Discovery Health, and I choose those carefully. Mystery Diagnosis, Trauma: Life in the ER, etc. Even the Discovery Health CME, once.

Used to watch Untold Stories of the ER and Dr G, but they're a little too dramatized for me right now. Except maybe this recent episode with a girl with a fork in her throat....

😀

I like House, more for the sarcasm than anything else though.

The one thing the show House does better than any other medical show is the differential diagnosis. Writing all the symptoms on a blackboard, and then various diseases that could cause them, and then narrow down your tests to eliminate as many possibilities as possible. That which remains is the right answer. It's a concept borrowed from Sherlock Holmes (on which the House character is modeled). That's how you will ideally do things in medical specialties, and the doctors I know who watch the show laud this aspect of the show. The negative attitude toward patients and clinic however tend to be things doctors keep to themselves, even if they really feel that way. Someone who acted like House would not last long in a hospital setting.

But as for being bored by medical dramas, bear in mind that these tend to be the a collection of the most interesting and exciting types of cases the screenwriters could find, with no paperwork or overnight call. So if you find this boring, wait until real life.

Scrubs is the best prime-time medical show ever. Anyone who says otherwise is entitled to his/her opinion, as you are perfectly free to be as wrong as you want to be.

I think Grey's has some of the worst writing i've ever seen in a tv show. I've only seen like four episodes, but they were all awful. Everyone always says "oh well that was just a bad episode, the rest are better"...i'm sorry but if you randomly pick four episodes of a show and they were all coincidentally the "worst episode", the show sucks, end of story.

I always found House entertaining not for the medical part but just from the characters being funny, but it has definitely gotten monotonous. They tried to change it up this year with all the different fellows, but it's just not for me. Now i watch it cuz 13 is hot, and an old habit is hard to break.

Nip/Tuck has nothing to do with medicine, although they are plastic surgeons. That said, it is the most F'ed up stuff i've ever seen, the twists they have there. It's so perfectly unrealistic, i love it. I'm sick of the reality television fad, i don't want to hear things that stupid people would really say, i want well written ridiculousness. that's why gilmore girls was so good.

Watching other people work is much more boring than doing it yourself. I'd be bored to tears watching someone else cut grass or run 911 calls on TV, but I like doing it myself.

You've been full of doom and gloom lately.

Scrubs: Great show, or the greatest show?

I totally forgot about "Northern Exposure" - I watched the entire series a couple of years ago with my Dad. That was a great show (especially the first four seasons)! Although it didn't really have much to do with medicine (except the main character was a doctor), the plot lines were all very original and interesting, and the characters are some of the deepest and best-acted I've see on a television show.

And for those that have seen it, my favorite character ever is Marilyn. 👍

anyone even seen Chicago Hope? the tour guide in Cleveland stopped me as I got on the bus and said "WOW, you look just like that guy from ER!" turns out later as I listed every character in the history of ER that she actually meant Chicago Hope.

edit: looking at IMDB now, I'm guessing she meant Adam Arkin (second from right) and hoping that she didn't mean Hector Elizondo (far left), although i guess it could have been this second from left guy too... no idea. I don't really think I look like any of them.

second edit: LOL, now I remember she said Mandy Patinkin, and I was like wtf who is Mandy Patinkin.

Now I know:

lol, I am Inigo Montoya... 🙁
