On top of volunteering, clinical work, and research, does anyone have time for clubs at school. I'm not talking about those clubs where you meet bimonthly, I'm talking about actual clubs that takes up at least 5hrs a week. How do you guys manage?

My club met 8hrs/week. It wasn’t too hard to find time. 4hrs/weekend, worked twice a week, researched on the days I didn’t work, and studied on my time off for up to 5hrs a night.

Why? Do you like the club? You will find time for what you want to find time for. I never found time for clubs because I couldn't care less.

Lmao I initially thought this was about night clubs...

In UG, most of my research was during the day on the weekdays, and volunteering was during the day on the weekends, so most of my club activities took place in the evenings. So it’s highly dependent on when the club meets/does things.

As with anything, it should come down to how much you want to participate in said club compared to other things. You have a limited amount of time, and contrary to popular pre-med beliefs, you can’t do everything.

Is the club an activity/hobby you genuinely love to do? Then I would say make time for it, even if it means curbing (not completely cut out) your research/volunteering hours. This is mostly for your sanity/happiness, not for it to look good on your med school app.

On the other hand, if the club is a resume padder (eg a premed club with little to no service to the community), I would drop it.

Upon initial glance, I thought this was about night clubs as well 🤣

We don’t just join clubs, we run them. We start our own.
