Does anyone know anything about VA hospital background checks?

It looks like I will be getting a pretty detailed background check by the VA (fingerprints and everything). I have a misdemeanor from a couple years ago that I did not have to disclose on any of my previous applications because I was not convicted, but I'm pretty sure the arrest will show up on this check. Does anyone know how big of a problem this will be?

Huge problem if something shows up and you didn't disclose. Get your own background check and see what's there. If anything comes up, notify your school before the VA does. If your background check comes up clean, no problems.

Out of curiosity, if it does show up as dismissed/not guilty etc etc, would it be an issue (assuming no misrepresentations occured..)? Isn't presumption of innocence the norm?

I would tell them, but it shouldn't be a problem. A friend of mine had a felony pop up on his; he was actually charged with a misdemeanor and someone entered it in wrong (he went years without knowing this; finished a masters degree and got into med school, only to be notified after the all powerful VA background check.) The VA contacted him, and he had to call around to get it changed. He still has the misdemeanor though.

He said that he didn't have to disclose it because he was not convicted. Please read the OP before posting.

This will not present a problem with rotating at the VA, OP. It may or may not show up, as I believe the background check is consistent at all VAs. If it is, then it is simply an FBI check, and not everything gets reported to them. But if an arrest record does show up, it'll be fine, because you were not convicted.

Thanks for your responses. I actually got in touch with the VA and they said it wouldn't be a problem at all.
