does anyone know how reliable findthebest.com is for admissions statistics?

Seems accurate. Remember mean is not the same as median. Also those rankings are whack

I would suggest the MSAR and/or USNWR for statistics. I'm not surprised the median is 35 for NYU -- it's a fairly competitive top-tier school. An earlier thread just mentioned the median accepted MCAT is 33 this year across all US allopathic schools. Just took a quick look at the "SmartRank", and although the general trend seems right, I wouldn't trust it too much.

Edit: Just looked at AAMC's MSAR, and the median accepted MCAT for NYU is 36. cGPA and sGPA are both 3.9. Yikes! :nailbiting:

There are other allopathic schools all over including in ny with lower numbers as well as osteopathic programs as well. Don't give up on your hopes and dreams. If you don't try, you are guaranteed to fail to achieve them.

there go my hopes and dreams

Those are just median statistics. So yeah, you have ppl there with higher and lower scores (but most of us tend to forget about the scores in the lower range). And yes, there might be less students with those stats, but they are still there. I met a med student from one of the Big 4 Manhattan schools who got in with a 3.6ish and a 31 MCAT. And he was not from an underrepresented group. As jturkel pointed out, you have to try! And if you're in NYC, it wouldn't hurt to volunteer at one of those hospitals.

Is it just me or are some of these stats really high?

For example, it says the median MCAT and GPA for NYU SoM is 35 and 3.86, with an acceptance rate of 1.9%

Hey sundays24, my name is Allen and I manage the Education category at FindTheBest. We make a concerted effort to always keep our data accurate and up to date. For our medical schools comparison, we get data directly from the official medical schools websites and supplement it with AAMC. While MCAT and GPA data are from the school, we calculate acceptance rate by taking the total number of enrolled students by the total number of applicants. If you have questions regarding other data points or suggestions how we can improve our site, please send us an email at [email protected].

Thanks, and good luck!!

it's ridiculous that the median GPAs for acceptees are ~3.9, or near-perfect.

Hi @a_kim, wouldn't that not account for those who are accepted but don't eventually matriculate? I remember an older version of your site still reported total accepted data, but does not seem to anymore.
