Does anyone know the average age presentation of common murmurs presented on the step 1 exam in the scenario...

Example: Aortic Stenosis :- above age 60

common ones are

MR, TR, AR, AS, VSD, PDA, ASD,

Are you asking what the average age is if it's a question on Step 1? Answer to that is whatever the average age is in real life (Kaplan said one of the requirements for question writers is that they use accurate prevalence/incidence data).

Or are you asking what the average age is of the murmurs that commonly show up on Step 1? Answer to that is whatever pubmed says the average age is haha.
 
AS- tends to be age related (70s, 80s) unless bicuspid or rheumatic

AR and MR will depend on why they are presenting. With endocarditis it is variable. From rheumatic disease, also variable but tends to be 50s, 60s and 70s.

VSD will present based on the size of the shunt. The bigger the shunt, the earlier they will present (even within a few weeks of life). ASD is similar but if not huge will often present in their teens to 20s.
