Hi. Would anyone here opine that attractiveness gives you an advantageous edge in the interviewing process? I feel like I'm pretty damn attractive, and with this self-deemed rational logic, Bobby with a 3.7 and flawless looks should have an upper-hand contrasted to Henry with a 3.7 and crooked-teeth.
I'd want my doctor to be attractive...

Subconsciously, I think it does. There has been substantial evidence that attractive people get treated better in the work place than those considered not attractive.

this thread is worthless without pics.

Does this mean gnarl-toothed Henry can write off braces on his tax return as an academic expenditure?

I would think it does, but not no purpose. Or maybe on purpose...

This thread should be merged with the "erection during an interview" thread.

Of course it does but the more technical a profession is the less it matters.

attractiveness plays a role between people everyday. Attractive people are usually thought of as more intelligent, honest, kind, etc.

Since adcoms are humans, I'm sure it plays a role somewhat.

I would think that attractive people would be more memorable candidates during interviews when it comes time to down to admissions decisions.

Of course I have no scientific evidence besides a book chapter about attractiveness and social benefits taken from my anthropology class lol.

I like how the article attributes the physicians' lower stature to "heavy stethoscopes" and "overload of information".

Most of the doctors I have met are pretty fit to a little chunky.

Actually, most of the MEN are usually good looking whereas the WOMEN are not always the nicest to look at.

I'm sure attractiveness wouldn't hurt. It goes into just about every aspect of life though. (At least keeping yourself in shape. How can an obese doctor be giving out information on health? Kind of a hypocrite)

Haven't you guys seen "Malice" with Alec Baldwin.....?

So if you Ugly, chances are that you wont get in. yeaaaahhhhhh

Depends on what kind of "Ugly" your talking about.

A bit of a big nose? Naw.

Big ears? No

Morbid Obeseity? There's a problem...

Not all doctors are good-looking, BUT they all look good in a white coat...

Has anyone met an obese doctor? Out of curiosity? I mean REALLY obese.

Yes I would say on the unconscious level it sometimes plays a role. Also, you're more attractive when you smile so don't forget during your interview to show off those pearly whites. 😀

I just googles him. If you watch doctors' diaries then there is def. an example of an overweight/obese emergency physician. He went to HMS also....

👍

I've seen some docs that likely qualify as obese and are pretty hefty, but no 400 pounders or anything like that.

I've met a doc that was pretty overweight, actually. Probably could lose 60 lbs or more. It's feels wrong, TBH.

I honestly don't know if that is an insult or a complement, because I would be pretty sad if I got a 70% on something 🙁

thats not an insult.

dont have strong e-standards.

7/10 is fantastic especially since 10s do not exist IRL.

my goal in life is to trick an 8-9/10.

anyways 7/10 is good.

To OP sadly yes.

If I were to put my pic up no one would believe me. HAHA my name may be senorsquishie, but I am a girl 😱

Of course. Only the hottest girls and the sexiest guys get into med school. All med school students look like they're from Grey's Anatomy. Going into med school is like going to a Playboy mansion.

...

/facepalm

no wonder I was 100% on the interview trail. Hollaaaa

Guess I better start dusting off the old treadmill

Since when? I'm sure they lose a bit of their humanity each time they rip apart the soul of a teary-eyed premed with a rejection letter.

I wouldn't be surprised if attractiveness played a role. As much as we would like to believe it is not so, people are more receptive to attractive people.

Over time, due to their physical features, attractive people are likely to develop an outgoing personality and exude confidence, all of which are important, when someone is evaluating you based on only about one hour of conversation.
