bacteria have a single circular piece of DNA. It is not considered a chromosome...which is a linear section of the total DNA.

in bacteria, DNA is packaged into what is known as a "nucleoid". The packaging structure is very different from that of eukaryotes though, and in prokaryotes, packaging depends heavily on supercoiling of the DNA structure. Supercoiling is achieved through various proteins within the cytoplasm of the prokaryote.

u can think of mitochondria as a bacteria. Mito has circular DNA and since it is a "bacteria", no compartmentalization. In forensics it is a well known fact that you and your mother will have the exact same DNA sequence from your mitochrondrial DNA. 😀 That is just an added piece of info, that I remember being asked on DAT this year. 😉
