Okay, I looked for this topic on the "Search" function, and I couldn't find anything relevant to my question.

Are courses like Advanced OChem, Advanced Calculus, Upper-Division Cell Biology included in BCPM calculation, in addition to the lower-division pre-reqs? Or do they only include the pre-reqs? I want to boost my BCPM GPA by using more upper-div Advanced classes, if this would be possible.

Thanks!

all bio, chem, physics , and math classes count. Upper and lower division works fine.

Ok, thanks so much!

Now I'm wondering - How will taking many U-D courses look to Ad Coms? I badly need to improve from the pre-req courses that I have completed (my GPA in General Chem, Calculus, and lower-div Bio is currently a 3.07.) I plan to take MANY more upper-division classes, plus OChem and Physics, to get my BCPM GPA into the competitive range. Will trying to make up for my lower-division courses hurt me - in other words, since I didn't just "get it right the first time?" Is more weight placed onto pre-reqs than U-D classes, or vice versa?

Also, I am planning to stay for a 5th year as an undergrad. Will my grades in these courses be included in the calculation? I know coursework gets separated into FR, SO, JR, SR, Post-Bac, Grad Work. Does 5th year count as a senior year?

I know I have a lot of questions - but I'm kind of new to the AMCAS calculations.

No, taking upper-division courses will not hurt you. It can only help.

Your 5th year will just be added on to your senior year. All your undergraduate courses will be factored into your GPA, regardless of how many years it takes you to graduate.
